The Enneagram and Trauma

You may have watched Oprah on 60 Minutes this last Sunday night. She talked about “Adverse Childhood Experiences” (ACEs) to answer the question, “What happened to you,” vs. “What’s wrong with you,” for those suffering from trauma, or who are incarcerated in America’s criminal justice system. You are cordially invited to join us to take the ACEs test yourself to understand first-hand about trauma-causing childhood experiences. We’ll break up into Enneagram type groups to discuss and share how your type could be most effectively supported towards health and well-being. You will leave knowing more about the Enneagram Prison Project, which directly addresses these issues within prison walls, along with insights about how your Enneagram style can help mitigate trauma and promote compassion for others, as well as help you break out of the “prison of your own making.”

PRESENTER: Sandy Hogan, Accredited Enneagram Professional, Professional Certified Coach, and Certified Integral Coach, is a co-founder of the Enneagram Enthusiasts, a vibrant and growing Enneagram study group since 2011. She has been studying the Enneagram in depth since 2002 and uses the wisdom inherent within it to support each of her clients. She also serves on the Arizona Enneagram Association board of directors and is committed to bringing the myriad gifts of the Enneagram to Life through coaching and teaching.

“True communication is communion – the realization of Oneness, which is love.” – Eckhart Tolle.

Understanding one another’s communication style creates compassion. Compassion fosters relationships of mutual trust, mutual respect, and mutual freedom of expression. If we want to be understood, and in turn to understand, we must practice the platinum rule:  Treat others the way they wish to be treated. By learning the communication styles of the other Types, suspending our own judgments, assumptions, and “story-telling” about what they say, the tone they use, and how they come across, we take nothing personally and cultivate genuine understanding that can deepen our relationships.

LOCATION: St. Philips Church, NE corner of Campbell and River

The New Year is approaching, and with the holiday season upon us, many people are already becoming introspective and reevaluating some of their lives’ tolerations, choices, and limitations. We’ve got a new twist on the old tradition of New Year’s resolutions, where the rubber actually meets the road: taking into consideration the strengths and weaknesses of our Enneagram Type. By understanding more about what might be thwarting our progress, foiling our commitment, or frustrating our results, we’ll be working within Type groups to identify ways to achieve our “New Year’s Resolutions” that are aligned with our Enneagram type’s style, tendencies, and preferences, while avoiding blind spots. Please join us to take advantage of your Enneagram Type’s “brain trust.” You will explore developmental practices that strengthen your Type’s temperament, so that you can actually achieve the goals you’ve been intending to achieve – perhaps for a l-o-n-g time. A new year could mean a new YOU!

Enneagram Meeting: Evolution Through the Way of the Arrows

DATE: (The third Wednesday of the month) Wednesday, November 15, 2017
LOCATION: St. Philips Church, NE corner of Campbell and River
TIME:  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
COST:
A $5.00 donation is requested, or any amount that meets your means

This month’s topic is inspired by the recent Arizona Enneagram Association’s workshop presented by Bea Chestnut, Ph.D. and Uranio Paes. “The way of the arrows” uses the dynamic of the Enneagram symbol itself to teach us our Type’s evolutionary, and revolutionary, path of transformation. The arrow lines are a key feature of the Enneagram system that can guide our growth toward consciously manifesting our higher selves. Through whole-body movements (mudras) associated with the energy of each EnneaType, we can begin to sense the intrinsic inner state of each Type, which are traits of all humanity. By practicing movements along the arrows in a particular way, we can entrain and strengthen new neural pathways that support our natural advancement toward our essential selves.

Enneagram Meeting: The Passions & Virtues

DATE: (The third Wednesday of the month) Wednesday, August 16, 2017
LOCATION: St. Philips Church, NE corner of Campbell and River – West Gallery
TIME:  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
COST:
Free. A $5.00 donation is requested, or any amount that meets your means
THIS MONTH’S MEETING TOPIC:  The Enneagram of Passions and Virtues (with panel)
Sandra Maitri was the keynote speaker at this year’s recent International Enneagram Association Global Conference. You are invited to participate in our active exploration of her book, The Enneagram of Passions and Virtues, that illuminates human experience beyond personality patterns. Using the spiritual psychology of the Enneagram, she highlights two underlying facets of human consciousness: the passions and the virtues. The passions are the ego-driven emotional states that come to dominate our lives, such as anger, pride, and fear. Discovering and understanding the passions in an experiential way can lead us to what lies beyond the personality itself. As we do, the virtues, which include serenity, humility, and courage, naturally arise to support our unfoldment. This giving way from the passions to the virtues is one of the hallmarks of inner development. Please join us, through group interaction and a lively panel discussion, to learn how your EnneaType can make progress towards living more consciously from your virtue – and from the virtues of ALL the types.

Presenter:  Sandy Hogan, Professional Certified Coach, and International Enneagram Association Accredited Professional, is a co-founder of the Enneagram Enthusiasts, a vibrant and growing Enneagram study group. She has been studying the Enneagram in depth since 2002 and uses the wisdom inherent within it to support each of her clients. She also serves on the Arizona Enneagram Association board of directors and is committed to bringing the myriad gifts of the Enneagram to Life. Sandy has just returned from the IEA Global Conference, where she “sat at the feet” of Sandra Maitri, whose primary focus is on the spiritual dimensions of the Enneagram.

Enneagram Meeting: The Enneagram in Love

LOCATION: St. Philips Church, Mesquite Room, NE corner of Campbell and River
TIME:  6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
COST:
A $5.00 donation is requested, or any amount that meets your means

THIS MONTH’S MEETING TOPIC:   The Enneagram in Love

The most common question Enneagram teachers get asked is “What’s the best Type for me?”  Unfortunately there is no right answer to that question. All Types have aspects which share sensibilities with other Types. Interacting with different people brings out different aspects of ourselves.

In this month’s meeting, we will explore the dynamics of the 9 EnneaTypes in love relationships with other Types. Using case studies from our own experiences which we may share with the group, we will compile an organic picture of how these textbook descriptions of Type really appear in life.  Gain insight into your own behaviors, and tolerance and understanding of your beloveds’ behaviors.

About the Presenter: Candice Thomas, L.Ac. is an integrative acupuncturist and an IEA Accredited Professional who uses the Enneagram in her medical practice.  She believes it is the best way to serve her mission of “healing through empowerment”.  She employs a storytelling style of case studies and group interaction to offer illumination about how these ego structures play out in real life. EnneaGram Meeting: Derailers: Basic Fears & Distorted Desires (with Panel)

THIS MONTH’S MEETING TOPIC:   Derailers: Basic Fears & Distorted Desires (with Panel)

Each Enneagram Type has an (often unconscious) Basic Fear. To compensate for the Basic Fear, the Basic Desire arises. We might say that the whole of our personality structure is composed of our flight from our Basic Fear and our pursuit of our Basic Desire. But what happens when our Basic Desire becomes distorted?
You’re invited to explore more about this “double-jeopardy,” and hear from our panel of nine experts about how this dynamic plays out in our lives.

Presenter:   Sandy Hogan, Professional Certified Coach, and International Enneagram Association Accredited Professional, is a co-founder of the Enneagram Enthusiasts, a vibrant and growing study group. She has been studying the Enneagram in depth since 2002 and uses the wisdom inherent within it to support each of her clients.
